September :

Almost everybody who has had a colicky baby knows that the noise of the vaccum cleaner does the trick of stopping the never ending crying. But you can't have it on for long 'coz it gets heated up. The Solution : A White Noises cassette called  "For Crying Out Loud" by Perpetual Cow Productions.

October :

For those babies who have problems with teething, there is a product out there called Hyland's Teething Tablets. They seem to work when even Tylenol won't. They are all natural so they have no side effects. And they cost under $5 for a bottle with 120 tablets. Also they dissolve instantly so you don't have to worry about how you are going to get baby to swallow them without choking

Tired of all those bugs landing on your child while at play Try Rubbing Skin So Soft(By Avon) over Arms and Legs and Face when going out to play. The Bugs are sure to stay away

When bathing your baby drop the baby wash bottle in the water so that it will be warm on their skin.

If you like conserving money there is a simple way to make your own baby wipes by using plain paper towels(one whole roll) and inserting that into a large bowl or even a storage bin and then add things like baby wash and water. Let the roll soak it up for a few days and viola! homemade wipes.

Carry ziplock storage bags in your car's glove compartment and/or diaper bag to store those dirty diapers while you're away from home and you can wash and reuse them!

Say No To Walkers

Now your baby likes to look at the world sitting up and laying on her back and tummy. Although walkers were once used for babies to sit in and play, the American Academy of Pediatrics tells us to say no to walkers now.

Think safety first! When babies are left in walkers they could fall down steps, causing broken bones brain damage, and even death. Miss opportunities to exercise their upper legs and hips Develop short heel cords and have to toe-walk The "stationary walker" allows your baby to sit without the danger of moving. If you want your baby to use it, make sure she spends only short periods of time in the Stationary walker! Because it Can also cause your baby to toe-walk if the seat is too high and she is in it daily for a Long time Let’s your baby-sit without working on balance and muscle development Your baby cannot develop her skills of rolling and sitting by herself in these walkers. Help her practice these skills. Have several safe places for her to play. Supervise her floor play at all times.

If you have a toddler at home you know how difficult it is to make them sit down for a while when you have something important to do. If you are facing this problem then you have to try the "So Smart"(The Baby School Company, Inc) and "Baby Shakespeare"(The Baby Einstein Company) learning videos. Your toddler might not watch the whole video in the beginning, but soon he/she will and you'll have 30 minutes to finish your tasks.

More Info : Babies watch these videos too. You can start as early as 4 months. Go here to learn more..

Well it's that time. Time for the "scary" chore of teaching your little one to use the "big boy potty."  I actually have an aunt that tried this and she said it really works.  Okay here's what you do, (this only really works for little boys) when it is time to start potty training place a couple of cheerios or fruit loops in the toilet. Tell them to try and aim for the the ceral.  It gives them a way to keep focused on the toilet and also it's a way to let them look forward to using the "big boy potty."  Good luck!!

For those babies who won't sit on the stroller there is a stroller toy bar which you can buy from any toy store and fix it to the stroller front. It helps them stay in the stroller atleast till they get bored with the toys in the bar.

Babies are always falling down when they learn to walk and even for months after. I took thick wash cloths and wet them, put them in a ziplock back and kept them in the freezer. It works great. They can suck on them for a busted lip, and they will lay easily over boo boos on knees and heads since they aren't so stiff. They were a huge help to me.

Oct(Halloween Fun)

There are many alternates to the normal Trick or Treating. Little ones tend to tire too soon and then have major candy rushes for days. We have looked for alternates to this in the past years and will do so again this year. Some of the things we have done include Church parties, Costume contest, scrapbooking party(in costume of course) and neighborhood potluck dinners. Of course all of this is done in costume and we have found treats for the little ones don't always have to be candy either. Pencils, stickers, coloring books, tattoos, small toys, fruit based gummies and jewelry is always a big winner. Local Dollar stores provide alot of great inexpensive ideas for treats that will sure please the dentist!!! Have fun with it and be creative...candy only last til the wrapper is gone, but alot of these will provide fun for days after. Good Luck and be safe this Halloween!!!!

Nov/Dec(Holiday Portraits)

When taking your child to the potrait studio for Holiday Portraits make sure that..

1. he/she is well fed and has taken a good nap.

2. Be there on time. But don't go there very early because they might get tired of waiting.

3. Take an extra bottle of milk (or snacks for older kids) even if they have eaten because you might have to wait due to the heavy rush.

4. Don't forget to take an extra pair of clothing just in case they ruin their dress(and diapers ofcourse).

Jan/Feb

In the middle of the busy times when the baby is crying and you don't know what to do, just love them.  I always like to remember (and reminded my husband when Morgan was smaller)----SHE'S ONLY LITTLE ONCE.  I don't want to be one of those parents who says when she's older, "I wish I had spent more time with my kids."  I want to enjoy my little one as time does seem to pass quickly sometimes.

PRACTICAL TIP:
Instead of asking a little one if he or she wants to do something (which allows for an answer of "NO"), have two options and allow the child to choose.

You may think that your child understands everything you say except the word no. Well, guess again. She understands she just doesn't want to listen.
Instead of saying or yelling no at your child over and over, pick them up
and move them to a spot they are suppose to be in and give them their
favorite toy. My daughter often looks at me like, you said no well what CAN
I play with? So I say no, move her and give her a toy. It works everytime,
now she goes to her spot instead of messing with mine.

When I tell my 13 year old daughter that she is not allowed to do something, rather than just say no, I explain to her the reason why. This prevents a lot of arguing. She knows the exact reason and I don't hear but why????

July

Love that your children are independent, yet worried they will come out of the bedroom wearing stripes and polka dots? When doing the childrens' laundry, I always fold their outfits together and store them in the drawers together. This way, they get the independence of choosing what to wear and you get the assurance, that no matter what, they will match. Now, getting those boys out of cowboy boots is another thing....  *smile*
